Oahu Wildfire

According to the Maui News, 100 homes in the central community in Wahiawa have been evacuated as a wildfire threatens the neighborhood.

The Honolulu Fire department issued an evacuation order for the neighborhood after the fire burned about 300 acres on Monday. The fire started at about 4:30 p.m. The residential evacuations occurred on Puninoni Street, Puninoni Place, Nonohe Street, Nonohe Place.

The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural resources state that over the weekend, the fire started in the Ewa Forest Reserve.

Roughly 50 firefighters from the state Division of Forestry and Wildfire, U.S. Army Fire Department, Federal Fire Department, and the Honolulu Fire Department fought the fire

No structures have been burned and no injuries have been reported; however, the Red Cross says there is an evacuation shelter open at the Wahiawa District Park.The State indicates that the terrain is very steep and very difficult to get to and the high winds are said to have fueled the flames.
